For the dance production Shard, directed by choreographer Ceren Oran, fabrik Potsdam is looking for people of all ages from Potsdam and the surrounding area who would like to help bring the piece to life alongside others in a scene and appear on stage.
The physical centrepiece of the performance is a solo by professional dancer Jovana Zelenovic. We are looking for people who want to be part of the ‘crowd’. In the final scene, this group surrounds the dancer, using contemporary dance techniques to symbolically represent ‘society’ as it surrounds a person during and after a traumatic experience. The feeling of loneliness and/or the support between the protagonist and society is translated into choreographic images.
The piece will be staged on 11 and 12 September 2026 as part of fabrik Potsdam’s 2026/27 season opening.

ABOUT THE PIECE
A circle, a dancer, a community. So many stories, lines and experiences – and no end. Shard paints a choreographic picture of how individuals and their surroundings cope with trauma. In this production, Munich-based choreographer Ceren Oran conveys the sense of loneliness that can arise from traumatic experiences and explores the inner states that follow trauma: anger, grief, despair, guilt, helplessness, hyperactivity, fear and isolation. At the same time, she poses questions: Is genuine empathy even possible? What does support mean in such exceptional situations? What do we shy away from? What language do we find when interacting with one another? Can we hold on, endure and persevere?
