Yuli is a successful mixture between dance film and biopic, depicting the moving story of the famous Cuban ballet dancer Carlos Acosta's beginnings. Carlos Acosta was celebrated as the first dark-skinned solo dancer at the Royal Ballet London. The biopic follows the Cuban ballet star’s difficult path, marked by a poor childhood and many resistances. In film and dance, the stirring piece shows the relationship with his father, the inner conflict of post-socialist Cuba, and ballet as a door opener.
