In 2023, Unusual Symptoms, the dance ensemble from Bremen Theatre, was already a guest at the Potsdamer Tanztage and was enthusiastically received by the audience with the piece Harmonia. With Diamonds, the ensemble presents an extraordinary dance performance with a live DJ on the themes of relationships and intimacy.
A large light sculpture hangs over the stage. Nine dancers and a DJ gradually fill the space and move through different moods, sometimes meditative, sometimes highly energetic, but always in connection with each other and the audience. Connection – between people, places, bodies, and communities – is a theme that repeatedly drives the Brazilian choreographer Renan Martins. With a fun and critical approach, and influenced by his personal experiences as a queer person of colour in Europe, Martins combines dance and music with political reflection. Inspired by Bell Hooks' book All About Love: New Visions, Martins explores our view of relationships and intimacy. Diamonds is a dance ranging about separation and connection, about a society that often reinforces individualism. But how long can we go without a relationship, without belonging, without togetherness?

In 2023, the dance group Unusual Symptoms from the Bremen Theatre performed at the fabrik Potsdam. It was a great success. Now they are performing Diamonds. In this dance piece, the audience sits around the stage, very close to the artists. The performance is about relationships and closeness. A large light sculpture hangs above the stage. The nine dancers and the DJ are sometimes very quiet, sometimes full of energy, but always connected with each other and the audience. Brazilian choreographer Renan Martins brings dance, music and politics together. His piece asks: How important are connections between people? And can we even live without closeness and community?
