Die gereizte Frau

Reading to accompany the performance When the Bleeding Stops | Miriam Yung Min Stein (Berlin)

26 May 2024 | Potsdamer Tanztage 2024Reading

Menstruation is political – but its absence is too. When Miriam Stein is surprised by hot flashes, disrupted sleep, and other unpleasant signs of menopause, she reexamines the position assigned to her by patriarchal society. Somewhat irritated, she notes: the so-called menopausal years are the final taboo of women's health. Miriam Stein dispels old prejudices and brings the topic out of societal obscurity. In Die gereizte Frau, she entertainingly and wisely combines personal experience with feminist social criticism. An important book for any woman who wants to age on her own terms. Miriam Yung Min Stein was born in South Korea in 1977, she was raised by a German family as an adopted child. She has worked in theatre with Christoph Schlingensief and Rimini Protokoll and is a prominent German cultural journalist.
