Étape Danse is a trilateral European residency programme that supports three selected new dance productions from France, Germany and Italy each year. James Batchelor (D/AUS) & Arad Inbar (NL)

Combining an immersive digital environment with a choreography for two dancers, Echo Field celebrates social dance practices. The project examines both historical and contemporary references of social dance from the Viennese Waltz to virtual club spaces. The ‘echo’ explored in this work between human body and digital avatar expands the notions of expression and intimacy beyond the fleshy boundaries of the skin, evoking a contemporary form of techno-human folk dance.

James Batchelor is a choreographer from Ngunnawal country (Canberra, Australia), based in Berlin. His work including Deepspace, Hyperspace and Shortcuts to Familiar Places is focused on the hypnotic, visually detailed, drawing the audience into a contemplative and imaginative world. He was part of the Aerowaves program in 2019 and has toured his works extensively in Europe and Australia. He also has a dedicated teaching practice working with people of all ages and abilities.

Jacopo Jenna (IT)

Dance of death refers to the general idea that the movements of the stars, the gods, the spirits and nature are also a dance. Danse Macabre! is an invitation to dance to this unknown beyond, making connections to today's world through a mix of films, electronic music and light. The figures mirror and double themselves, penetrate their own image and become not only performers but also embodiments of movement on stage.

Jacopo Jenna is a choreographer, performer and filmmaker. In Europe, he has collaborated with dance companies, choreographic research projects and various artists such as Jacopo Miliani, Caterina Barbieri, Roberto Fassone, Ramona Caia and Bassam Abou Diab. He explores the perception of dance or choreography as an extended practice that creates a variety of performative contexts to reframe the body in relation to movements.

Nicolas Fayol / Collectif Hinterland (F)

FAIRE FLEURIR stages a dancer, stones, two musicians and a play of light and shadow in a space that is extremely reduced in height. The height does not allow people to stand up on their feet. As if in an underground, secret or inaccessible place, the performers join together in search of a body that can stand on four legs.

Nicolas Fayol discovered hip-hop dance in 2003 and attended the International School of Jazz Dance in Paris three years later. He then worked with various choreographers and began his work as a performer with Christian Rizzo in 2016. In parallel, he worked with images, photography and video in his garage. In 2022 he created TONES&BONES, a jazz repertoire for saxophonist Daniel Erdmann and a dancer.

On Fri 25 Aug 17:00 the play FAIRE FLEURIR will also be shown in full length on the stage of the fabrik Potsdam. Free admission. Due to limited capacity, please register at the following address: etapedanse@fabrikpotsdam.de
