The Group Motion Workshop is a two-hour improvisation/contact workshop with live music. Based on structures created and developed by Brigitta Herrmann and Manfred Fischbeck. The workshop combines improvisation, movement meditations and contact improvisation. The workshop format emerged from Herrmann & Fischbeck's work with the Group Motion Dance Company, which was founded in 1971. For over fifty years, the Group Motion Workshop has been held regularly every Friday night in Philadelphia and has been offered at festivals, dance centers, colleges and schools in the United States and other countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Argentina, Germany, France, Poland, Lithuania, Cyprus, Bermuda and Barbados.
This tradition is now being realized and continued by Berlin-based instructors Jennifer Mann and Heidi Weiss (since 2016). An ensemble of musicians supports this interactive space with live improvised acoustic and electronic music. No previous dance experience is required. The Group Motion Workshop offers a space for interactivity and communication that is spontaneous, profound and direct, opening up new channels for creative potential. It serves as a resource for creative and authentic expression through movement and sound and can be used as a creative practice for all levels and all ages. Dancing together with participants from different backgrounds and ages adds a powerful dimension of mutual learning and exchange of movement information and promotes the integration of body, mind and spirit. These structures are practiced individually and collectively in a playful, exploratory and experiential way.
Compositions and choreographic patterns can be created and experienced spontaneously. The practice of group movement creates a ritual space for building community.
The workshop will be conducted in English, with German translation if required
