Germaine Acogny - The Essence of Dance is a documentary film that portrays the work of the unique choreographer Germaine Acogny. Among other awards, Acogny received the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2021 for her life's work. Directed by Greta-Marie Becker, the film provides an insight into the rich artistic work of the choreographer, who is considered one of the most important voices in contemporary African dance and has been a major inspiration to the genre.
