“Perhaps we should patiently weave a porous place of flowing otherness – an embroidery in which the edges move, float, and dance.” Lia Rodrigues

Borda

Series Global Bodies: Brazil | Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Danças (Rio de Janeiro)

12 – 13 Jun 2025 | Global BodiesDance / performance

Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues never fails to impress with the urgency of her pieces. They are immediately physical, speak the language of deep humanity, and address fundamental issues of coexistence and the environment. In her new piece Borda, she creates an image of a shared future in which the borders are less boundaries than transitions.

Derived from the Portuguese word ‘bordar’ (to embroider), Borda stands for the tension between separation and connection. The word symbolises visible borders as well as invisible thresholds that shape identities and at the same time open up spaces for creative dialogue. In a figurative sense, “borda” can also mean: imagining, dreaming, fantasising. Imagination intensifies dreams, fables, mirages, creation – and gives us the opportunity to cross borders.

After the show on Thu June 12: Talk with the artists

With Global Bodies, fabrik Potsdam opens its doors to the diversity and expressiveness of international contemporary dance. The series of guest performances sets thematic and geographical priorities in order to visualise different cultural perspectives on the body, movement and identity. Global Bodies shows how dance as a universal language builds bridges, expands horizons and negotiates issues of our time. The invited companies and artists not only bring their works, but also their stories, contexts and philosophies of movement and enter into a lively dialogue with the audience.
