Following the performance of La nuit, nos autres at the Potsdamer Tanztage 2022, choreographer Aina Alegre returns with her piece Fugaces, a declaration of love to the emblematic figure of flamenco, Carmen Amaya (1918-1963).
With her atypical career, that took her from Barcelona's Roma neighbourhood to Hollywood, Carmen Amaya turned the codes of the genre upside down by appropriating the technique of the “zapateado”, which was previously only attributed to men. Aina Alegre revives her creative energy and her history by drawing inspiration from her archives. The piece, made up of collective moments, solos, and duets, fuses rhythms and gestures into a contemporary fabric haunted by the spirit of Carmen Amaya. An encounter between past and present in which the artist's soul is fleetingly reactivated in a powerful and percussive body language. A dance that is both loud and quiet, evoking this figure through a free and lively interpretation.
