Necropolis

Opening of Potsdamer Tanztage | Arkadi Zaides (Lyon)

21 – 22 May 2024 | Potsdamer Tanztage 2024Dance / performance

English with German surtitels.

In Necropolis, Arkadi Zaides crafts a continuous choreographic and documentary endeavour about unknown bodies, a poignant reflection on the ongoing human tragedy at Europe's borders. Integrating data analysis, choreographic techniques, interviews with experts on migration, and field research, Zaides and his team immerse themselves in forensic practices to establish a novel virtual archive. This archive, akin to a map or an invisible landscape, extends across space and time, intertwining the mythologies, histories, geographies, and anatomies of those who have found their way into Necropolis. Though the City of the Dead lacks bodies to dance, it is precisely this absence – the collective body of Necropolis – that Zaides aims to animate back to life.

Afterwards on Wed 22 May: talk with the artists
