Studio Québec: Artistic statement

Open Studio | Rozenn Lecomte & Léa Noblet Di Ziranaldi (Québec/France)

04 Sep 2024 | Studio QuébecArtists in residence

Artistic statement is based on the principles of stand-up comedy and the speeches of politicians. How does an idea come about, be it political or artistic? How does an artist position himself in a polarised society in which every contradiction becomes a conflict? From a sociological and artistic perspective, the project looks at the construction of a rebellious state while addressing the softness and violence that occur when we choose to be vulnerable. The stage is set up like a prison, a ‘huis clos’, where self-sacrifice becomes a duty and where ruptures from within and without open up the radicalisation of intimacy. Through improvised language, punk rock music and sensual movements, the research attempts to narrate the deep tenderness of a humanised and sensitive body. Portrait of an artist in mutation.

Studio Québec is a residency programme for artistic exchange in the field of choreography between Germany and Québec. Every year, Canadian and German artists are invited to spend a residency period of several weeks in the other country. Studio Québec is a co-operation between fabrik Potsdam, Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec and the Goethe-Institut Montréal with the support of the State of Brandenburg and the City of Potsdam.

Rozenn Lecomte is a Tiohtià:ke/Montréal-based artist who has been organising and participating in various underground events as a choreographer, performer and artistic director since 2011. She also runs the podcast Fil Conducteur, in which she discusses various questions about the contemporary dance ecosystem with Montreal artists. By putting dissident bodies in the spotlight, she is committed to a rebellious and ecstatic process in which the sharing of stories and relationships serves as a collective affirmation.

Léa Noblet Di Ziranaldi comes from France and began her training at the Conservatoire de Lyon and the Université Lumière Lyon 2, where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts. She continued her studies in Quebec and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with Honours from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 2018. Since then, she has worked as a performer and creator with renowned artists and companies such as MAYDAY - Mélanie Demers, Aurélie Pedron and Stefania Skoryna. Passionate about the intersection of artistic disciplines and the exchange of knowledge, she teaches and participates in various art education projects while continuing her training in contemporary dance, flamenco and singing.

In residence from 15 July to 4 September 2024.
